Over the years of homeschooling, I’ve utilized many different ideas from various other homeschoolers online. Blogs, Pinterest, books, etc.
During my early years, I didn’t know many homeschoolers, so I had to go research and try to find help with problem areas. Over time though, some blogs have come and gone. Now, I don’t remember all of the places I’ve visited online for help, but I do have a few resources I could share with you if you are looking for additional assistance or ideas. Here is a list of resources I have enjoyed.
Blogs: (most of the blogs I’ve followed no longer exist, but there are a few left)
Confessions of a Homeschooler– Great site. I’ve followed her since my early years. She has many free and cheap resources for younger elementary and preschool grades.
Generation Cedar – Mother of a large family, she is very encouraging to moms with many kids who face a world that hates children. I love some of her honesty in her frustrations.
1+1+1=1 blog – I don’t visit this blog much anymore, but I did in my earlier years. She has a lot of good ideas for young toddlers while homeschooling your kids.
Websites:
HSLDA– When I first started to consider homeschooling, this was one of the first places I went to in order to find statistics and info on how to homeschool. Great resource. Also provides other good resources.
Scholastic Books – (homeschool moms can get an account as a teacher and get discounts on books.). I’ve also gotten resources and worksheets from their teacher site.
Christianbook.com– When I first started homeschooling this is where I bought most of my resources and curriculum from. I still shop here quite often.
Cathy Duffy Reviews– curriculum reviews. (I also have one of her books. Helpful to me when I was weighing different curriculum choices. I still view this when I’m considering a change)
Curriculum-I’ve tried many over the years. But These are some of my favorites.
A Reason For (I’ve used science and handwriting)
Math U See (new for this semester)
I don’t read as many blogs on homeschooling as I used to. (I spent many hours in the early years scouring the internet for anything to help encourage me and guide me when I felt like I was forging a new road on an unbeaten path. However, as I’ve gotten older, and a little more comfortable in my decision to homeschool, it’s getting much easier to relax a little.
Each family has to figure things out and please remember it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s homeschool. Your homeschool doesn’t need to be Pinterest worthy nor do you NEED to do what some blogger tells you that you MUST or NEED to be doing. I try my best to rely on my bible for that.
The information is helpful if you are looking for ideas, but you don’t need to feel defeated if what they say to do, doesn’t work for you. The point of this blogging thing (other than (for some) to make a little side cash) is to share ideas and encourage you to grow.
I may add to this list as we go…
